Best Dressed at BET Awards 2014

The 2014 BET Awards took place in sunny Los Angeles on June 29th celebrating all things in the black entertainment industry, and were hosted by legendary comedian Chris Rock. Pharrell Williams opened the show with a great performance of “Come Get It Bae” with Missy Elliot (which you can watch here), really kicking off the show with a bang. The red carpet was full of white gowns, a big trend on the night, but some of the ladies & gents did pull out stops in colourful looks by designers from all over the world. So, who made Killer Fashion Best Dressed List?

White Hot

Adrienne Bailon wore a white plunging halter-gown with geometric sequined patterns by Michael Costello with an orangey-red lipstick and a tight updo bun to complete her sexy on-screen look, co-hosting the red carpet pre-show with Keshia Chanté.

Tamar Braxton stunned in a hot white look with a cinched halter gown with slight keyhole detail and an inverted v-cut hemline, designed by Michael Cinco Couture and Christian Louboutin nude heels.

Gabrielle Union definitely got the memo about wearing white, though she added some black accents with a mesh keyhole on the dress by Maria Lucia Hohan, which matched her thigh-high black suede boots. She looked ravishing!

Grammy-winning singer Ashanti brought out all the stops in her white lace & cut out dress by Michael Costello. Her fully sleeved, side cut and large keyhole cut dress looked sensational on the singer/actress, with her blonder deep waves and Tom Ford heels.

Following the white trend, socialite Paris Hilton also followed the Michael Costello dress trend, donning a cut out lace dress, with nude Christian Louboutin pumps.

Metallic Madness

Keshia Chanté wearing two-piece fully embellished with deep sweetheart neckline on the top and a thigh high cut on the skirt. Her custom-made Valentina Kova was perfectly on-point for the hot & sunny day in LA. Voluminous caramel coloured hair and pink lip-gloss finished off her look with some cuff bracelets bling.

Multi-talented Keke Palmer looked futuristic in her gold & white mini from the Alon Livné collection. Her uniquely designed dress looked fab against her skin, which she matches with white Saint Laurent pointed heels.

Rapper Nicki Minaj skipped the red carpet but later performed her newest song “Pills N Potions” (which you can watch here), in a super hot costume consisting of a Laurel Dewitt gold metal bib top with a leather tassel-adorned Zana Bayne skirt, patterned tights and Giuseppe Zanotti caged knee-high sandals. Nicki changed into a black bodycon later, and then won Best Female Hip Hop Artist, and gave quite the acceptance speech!

A Splash of Colour

Zendaya Coleman looked tres cool in a hip-hop-inspired baby blue & black look by French designer Emanuel Ungaro. She topped the look off with a black cap, pigtail braids and hoop earrings with jewel encrusted sandals.

Tamera Mowry looked gorgeous wearing navy sleeveless dress with zip detailing by Yigal Azrouël. Her dress features snakeskin-like pattern on the body with black side panels. Tamera styled her hair in soft waves to the side with a pink lip, metallic silver & black pumps and a glittery clutch to match.

Singer Michelle Williams walked the red carpet donning a turquoise-teal cut out dress. Her Olcay Gulsen also featured a side split showing off her gold strap Saint Laurent sandals. The former Destiny’s Child singer kept her hair straight with kohl-rimmed eyes and nude lippy.

Actress Kerry Washington looked pretty in a Dolce & Gabbana floral tea dress. The printed strapless was sweet & summery for the occasion, which she teamed Jimmy Choo ‘Anouk’ white pumps and a green Amanda Pearl clutch.

Lil Mama was fresh & fruity in a pastel orange mini dress by Alpana and Neeraj. Her structured strapless mini matched her hair (yet again!), though I really do love its freshness.

Kenya Moore also wore a citric colour, donning a Victoria Beckham creation with a wide v-cut neckline complimenting the tiny cutout under the bust and a black waistband to finish. An orangey-pink lip, kohl-rimmed eyes and a white manicure completed her sexy look.

Pretty in Pink

Jennifer Freeman waswearing Michael Costello; in a fresh hot pink bodycon with an exposed black back zip, with some simplistic gold jewellery and her brand new blonde hues.

Mafikizolo front woman Nhlanhla Nciza donned a beautiful South African design by Black Coffee. Her pastel pink & black gown featured a straight neckline, tulle skirting with artistic design and an over-the-shoulders mesh cape.
