Yves Saint Laurent: Master MUA Fred Létailléur Introduces The Holographics Collection

Springtime brings new collections to both the fashion and beauty industries, and for the latter something sparkly and daring has just been released. Yves Saint Laurent Beauty have unveiled an exclusive new extension of their liquid lipsticks, entitled Vernis À Lèvres The Holographics, which is all about that shimmer – and I am in love.

YSL Beauty

Taking inspiration from the 1980s, the Vernis À Lèvres range has been given a limited edition update of The Holographics with six new shades and two special top coats, that promises shine, shimmer and a lot of sass. Described as having electric colour, the new range will amp up your look with instant pigmentation in one application, and follows up with prismatic shine that lasts 10 hours.

In addition to the new additions, Dessin du Regard The Holographics Eye Pencils are four new eye liner pencils that promise an iridescent coverage in a cream to matte finish, that will last 16 hours and are multi-purpose too, while the new La Laque Couture Nail Polish The Holographics add two top coats to the nail polish collection, for extra added sparkle to your fingertips.

On Friday evening (April 20), I attended the YSL Masterclass with the brand’s European Makeup Artist Fred Létailléur, to discover their newest innovations from The Holographics 2018 ad campaign, which features models Staz Lindes & Zoe Kravitz. Set up in the beautiful designer atelier of Brown Thomas, the event was a perfect kickstart to my party weekend, plus as you know I adore YSL makeup – and, as I missed my previous one-on-one with my friend Fred due to being ill, this masterclass was truly meant to be.

For the event, YSL at Brown Thomas makeup artist Michelle Hynes (and my personal go-to MUA) was poised as the canvas for the new products, attended by VIP guests, makeup enthusiasts and customers. Read on for a step by step of the products Fred used to create the look, along with some tips & tricks, and check out my photos at the bottom of the complete makeup look and the new products I received post-event too!

YSL À Lèvres The Holographics

Top Secrets Expert Make-Up Remover Eyes & Lips – One of my personal favourite products from the YSL Beauty Top Secrets range, this makeup remover will challenge any other product of its type, and win. It features a two-type formula that will remove makeup as well as refresh the skin, perfect to use before makeup application and must at the end of the day. Available at €30.50

Forever Youth Liberator Serum – Serum products are vital for good, healthy skin lasting all day and night. As Fred explained, serum is the ‘gym’ to your skincare routine as moisturiser is the ‘food’. The serum features a Glycanactif™ complex, a combination of three glycans, that help stimulate the skin’s youthful capacities at three different levels of the skin. The built-in dropper will give you the right amount of serum each time, which you massage into the face before moisturiser. Available from €84.50

Forever Youth Liberator Eye Serum – This is a key item to have in any skincare routine, and the YSL eye serum is perfect for smoothing and brightening the eye area, as well as assisting in the base of your eye makeup. Doing a similar job as the above serum, this product specifically targets the eye area for all round youthful looks. Available at €66.50

Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow – A satin moisturiser that adds a glow to your base, this is one of YSL’s best skincare products. It’s an ultra-lightweight moisturiser that’s bursting with hydration, for up to an impressive 72 hours. Happy days! Available at €43.50

Touche Éclat Blur Primer: Blurring & Illuminating Fluid Gel Primer – If you wear makeup, I do hope you always prime beforehand. The YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer is easily one of the best on the market, with its silky smooth texture, it leaves the skin supple, refreshed and adds a subtle hint of sparkle thanks to its flecks of gold throughout. Apply with your fingers or a flat foundation brush for best results. Available at €39.50

All Hours Foundation and Touche Éclat All-in-One Glow Foundation – YSL is renowned for its range of foundations, and the All Hours is an excellent choice for its matte finish and long-lasting coverage. It’s buildable, blendable and will settle into the matte after a few minutes, so there’s no need for extra powder on top. Whereas the new Touche Éclat All-in-One Glow is a cross between a tinted moisturiser and a lightweight foundation, that leaves you with a dewy glow and an even finish. For this masterclass, Fred used both; starting with the former and finishing with the latter for a photoshoot-ready finish with glow, while the pigmentation and coverage was still very natural. Available at €42 and €44 respectively

All Hours Concealer and Touche Éclat – Complimenting the above foundations, each have their own concealers, and again Fred used both. The newer All Hours Concealer has a cream, velvet-like texture that gives full coverage for up to 16 hours while still lightweight. And of course, no YSL look is complete without using the signature and iconic Touche Éclat – the ultimate complexion highlighter pen.

Mixing both together, Fred used these along the nose, on the T-zone and Cupid’s bow, and around the under eye areas. This method helps bring out the foundation, as well as adding glow to the base. I’ve seen many different ways of using Touche Éclat that work; dotting around the eye area, creating a correction tick shape, simply drawing a semi-circle beneath; and then I’ve seen various ways to blend by using fingertips, brushes and blenders – Fred used a concealer brush after dotting around the eyes. Available at €35

Touche Éclat Glow Shot – YSL really do love to make our skin glow, and the Glow Shot product is a brilliant highlighter to enhance your look. Described as their “first liquid light concentrate”, the Glow Shot adds extra light wherever you apply it. During the masterclass, this was applied under the brow arches to help lift, as well as on the Cupid’s bow and cheekbones to enhance Michelle’s features even more. A nifty trick is to use one drop in your foundation to add an all-over glow with little effort. Available at €26.50

Couture Contour Palette – To create contour, this palette is the go-to choice for YSL lovers. Adding a subtle amount to Michelle’s cheeks in a light patting motion, this contour duo helps sculpt your face, which can also be used along the hairline and jaw line too. Available at €49.50.

Dessin Du Regard The Holographics Waterproof Eye Pencil in Arcade Pink – Moving onto the eyes, this updated range can be used as an eyeliner, eyeshadow base and even as a lip liner. In the shade Arcade Pink 10, Fred used the pencil all over the eyelid then blended with a brush, before applying to the lower lash line and blending out. This created a beautiful base that you could leave be, or top up with more eyeshadow. Available at €26.50

The Shock Volumizing Mascara – If you are looking for the mascara to give you big lashes that create the falsies effect, then pick yourself up the The Shock Mascara. Personally I use and love this mascara, it lifts lashes, elongates the outer lashes due to its wand shape and the pigmentation is excellent. Plus it comes off easily with makeup remover – no panda eyes here! Available at €29

Couture Brow – A favourite makeup feature for many, get your brows on fleek with the YSL Couture Brow that allows you to fix, structure and intensify your brows to your heart’s content, be it natural or dramatic. With long-lasting results, Fred advises to dot the brows with the top of the wand first, then brush through and blend for a natural finish before adding more to dramatise. Available at €27

Volupté Liquid Colour Balm in Night Rehab Lip Mask – One of the newest innovations to the YSL Beauty range, this is the update to the previous Volupté Tint in Oil that has a creamier texture to it but with the same amount of brilliant pigmentation and essential oils. The special Night Rehab Lip Mask 1 is shade is the most neutral, that is now my new night routine before entering dreamland. It contains coconut water and pomegranate extracts to moisturise, strengthen and support lip protection. Ideal for using under lipstick and every night too. Available at €34

Vernis À Lèvres The Holographics in Electric Burgundy and Black Top Coat – Finally, the star of the show! To start, Fred used The Holographics in Electric Burgundy 502, a burgundy shade with pink undertones and high shine. In only one application the colour was very apparent, applied with the pointed applicator from the outside of the lips inwards, explaining that this is because the outside of the mouth has muscles therefore the lip will move with the applicator – this doesn’t occur as easily the opposite way. After perfect application, Fred then added extra oomph to the look with the Black Top Coat 508, which added more shimmer to the lips but also turned the burgundy darker creating a more purple hue. Available at €34

La Laque Couture Nail Polish in Holographic Black – To finish the look, Michelle’s nails were painted with the new nail polish in one of the two new shades, Holographic Black 104 ( and the Holographic White 105 is amazing too!), that adds high shimmer after two coats, or instant shimmer atop your existing colour. Available at €26

Top Secrets Makeup Setting Spray – One of the most recent products to be added to YSL’s Top Secrets range, this setting spray is the final step to your makeup routine. Set your makeup and hydrate your skin for an all-day radiant glow that helps your skin stay supple too. Available at €35

Black Opium Floral Shock Eau de Parfum – No routine is complete without a spritz of perfume, and this version of the brand’s famous Black Opium is my personal favourite. Made up of warm black coffee shaken with bold citrus notes and mixed with a cool note of white musk, it’s the ultimate sensual scent, that comes in a glam rock glitter-frosted bottle. It’s seductive, sexy and classy – just like me! Available from €62
